Tencent Africa’s brand new music streaming app JOOX, enables South Africans to conveniently discover and listen to music wherever they are, is now also jam-packed with Afrikaans music hits.
Tencent Africa Services Chief Executive Officer Brett Loubser said JOOX has already surpassed other music streaming services in the four other markets into which it has been released.
He said much of this Afrikaans music was exclusive in the new app.
“JOOX is packed with various playlists for any mood,” said Loubser.
He said the app offers a free as well as paid-for VIP option that enables users to stream music without using any data, adding that another feature were three different streaming quality options, allowing customers to control their data usage.
“The combination of our upcoming markets music model, as well as the experience of our local team, makes JOOX a first for South Africa.” Said Loubser.
According to Loubser,JOOX offers a unique platform to ensure artists’ music was digitally available to their fans.
Besides all the local South African music that is already available on the app, Coleske Artists – the producers of Afrikaans is Groot – has uploaded their music exclusively for streaming on JOOX.
“The technology and business possibilities that Tencent brings to the table makes it possible to build on the quality that we offer to listeners. Getting involved is simply a no-brainer.” added Coleste.
“JOOX really is wonderful news. I am excited that my music is available on JOOX along with other artists like Die Heuwels Fantasties, Jay, Riana Nel, Laurika Rauch and Steve Hofmeyr. The great thing about the aqpp is that it is easy to use,” said celebrated singer and TV presenter Bobby van Jaarsveld.
One of the most famous social media Afrikaans singers, Brendan Peyper said he was lost for words to sing JOOX praises.
“My audiences are constantly on their cellphones and it is their primary communication medium. I am excited that they can now listen to and discover all of my music on app. We can’t afford to fall behind technological advances.” Said Peyper.
The singer Monique Steyn, who’s new album Mosaic is already available on JOOX, said the most important factor for her was how user-friendly the app is.
“My friends can’t believe how easy it is to listen to the music and use all the specific options that the app offers. It is especially handy to store your playlists on your phone so that you don’t have to use all your data when you are driving,” said Steyn.
According to Loubser, JOOX signed contracts with various international record companies to ensure a wide variety of international music and hits on the platform.
“Local content makes the scale of content bigger and builds a logical business model for South African artists,” said Loubser.
Users who download JOOX get their first month of VIP access free, as well as the Feemium option.
