Memorial service of the late Ian McLeod will be held today [Wednesday] at Crawford College in Pretoria, where he was the headmaster.
SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan is calling upon members in and around Pretoria and the greater Gauteng area to attend the Memorial Service which start at 16h00.
“With the permission of the family, the football fraternity will arrange another special memorial service to honour one of South Africa’s most celebrated referees,” said Jordaan.
Safa.net reported that acclaimed late referee, McLeod was cremated on Monday morning.
This was done in the presence of his immediate family only in accordance with his religion.
McLeod, the first South African referee to officiate at a FIFA World Cup in France 1998, passed away on Thursday, 26 October after he had been hospitalised for 12 days.
He had returned from a match between Black Leopards and Tshakhuma Tsha Mandivhandila at Thohoyandou Stadium on 14 October when he complained of some flu-like symptoms.
He was rushed to hospital the following day and never recovered until his passing on.
