“Former” ANC MP convicted of fraud

Pretoria Specialised Commercial Court on Monday convicted three suspects for defrauding Land Bank of R6 million.

The court found Philemon Radichaba Mohlahlane (62), Manyaba Rubben Mohlaloga (44) Dinga Rammy Nkhwashu (40) and Dingamanzi Ka Dinga (Inc.) of Masepula Dinga Attorneys firm guilty of defrauding the Land Bank in 2008.

The accused have been found guilty of fraud and money laundering, which amongst other things prohibits unlawful acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of crime.

The court had earlier heard that in January 2008, that the accused, with the guide of the powerful Mohlahlane, former Land Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) had schemed and moved R6 Million into a trust account of Masepule Dinga lawyers.

Mohlahlane undermined the procedure and instructed the fund manager at Agri-Bee to allow the said payments without supporting documents and following due processes.

The three transferred funds from the Agri-BEE fund planned for poor agriculturists, into a trust account and purchased a farm for R2 million and a X5 BMW and a BMW 118i for Mohlaloga.

Mohlaloga was an ANC MP and the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee of Agriculture.

The African National Congress (ANC) in Parliament has recommended Mohlaloga to fill in as the Chairperson of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) Council.

The group was arrested in October 2012 after a case was opened at Brooklyn police station culminating in relentless investigations thereafter.

Mitigating factors will be heard in March 8 while sentencing is expected to be handed down on April 3, 2018.
