The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on the Hawks to arrest the Guptas, Ace Magashule, Msebenzi Zwane, and all others embroiled in the alleged theft of R200 million belonging to poor black farmers.
DA Leader Mmusi Maimane said in a statement on Friday following search and seizure operation at the Free State Premier’s Office and the Department of Agriculture related to R200 000 supposedly stolen from Estina, Vrede Farm venture.
At the time of the alleged theft, Magashule was the Provincial Premier while Zwane was the MEC for Agriculture.
The Hawks pounced on the offices to find documents and information which would prove that Magashule and Zwane were involved into siphoning of money away from Vrede Dairy Farm venture and into the pockets of ANC connected cadres, most eminently the Guptas.
Maimane said comprehensive evidence proving wrongdoing as of now exists and has been in the Hawks possession for more than a half year.
Besides, said Maimane this evidence is sufficient to arrest the Guptas, Magashule, Zwane and other ANC-associated people.
“In August last year, I went to the Hawks Head Office in Tshwane to hand over a legitimate prosecution containing more than 200 pages of concrete prima facie evidence. It contains in detail how the cash was stolen and gives adequate confirmation to help the criminal charges laid by the DA,” said Maimane.
He said DA Shadow Minister of Finance, David Maynier, laid criminal charges against several individuals from the Gupta family, their partners, and Minister Zwane.
“These charges include money laundering, racketeering, helping another to profit by the returns of unlawful exercises, and acquiring, having or utilising the returns of unlawful exercises in terms of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998,” added Maimane.
The question is, asks Maimane, for what reason don’t have the culprits been arrested?
“We now call on the Hawks obtain warrants of arrest against the Guptas, Magashule, Zwane and all other embroiled in this outrage,” added Maimane.
