Although we welcome his inevitable choice to appoint Commission of Inquiry into State Capture regardless of his innumerable deferrals to influence it to fizzle, President Jacob Zuma does not deserve credit, Democratic Alliance Leader Mmusi Maimane said in a statement on Wednesday.
“He knew he had no further avenues to postpone it,” said Maimane.
Maimane said as the underlying complainant in the State of Capture report, the DA will screen the Commission throughout the accompanying 180 days.
He said the Commission’s Terms of Reference must enclose as possible to include:
- the activities of the Gupta family and their relationship with President Zuma and his family,
- all Gupta dealings associated with the State,
- the capture of state institutions, including South African Revenue Service, the National Prosecuting Authority, and the Hawks
- and every other allegation outlined in the Public Protector’s State of Capture report.
“We call on every South African who has any evidence on State Capture and corruption in government to disclose the information,” said Maimane.
He said this will help the Commission to investigate and uncover the truth.
Maimane urges Parliament to prepare itself to deal with each national course of action that has allowed State Capture to flourish.
He said the Commission’ must on completion table its findings before Parliament on satisfaction.
“We won’t allow this Commission to be another whitewash.
It must have to staff, support and free from any political interference,” said Maimane.
Maimane alerts that lets this revelation does not let Jacob Zuma free. North Gauteng High Court has rejected President Zuma’s unmerited review of the Public Protector’s State of Capture report and its proposals.
The Court found that Zuma’s direct in endeavoring to obstruct the release of the State of Capture report was a “mishandling of legal process.”
“An attempt to “stymie the fulfillment of a constitutional obligation of the Office of the Public Protector.” the court said.
Zuma must be responsible for such conducts.
“The Commission is a stage towards freeing the nation of corruption, and must do its work,” added Maimane.
