Democratic Alliance (DA) has promised it will keep in touch with the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, reiterating its call to capacitate rural safety within South African Police Service (SAPS) with sufficient manpower and resources.
In a statement on Friday, DA Limpopo Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle said his party calls on the police to make all resources available at their disposal to find and capture the culprits of these awful attacks.
“The DA is disheartened by Wednesday’s senseless murder of farm manager Jasper von Clause. His 55-year-old accomplice and the farmer’s son harmed amid the same fierce attack at Dale farm outside Lephalale,” said Smalle.
He added that there was a ruthless farm attack between Roeendtan and Mookgopong, also in Waterberg where unknown assailants stabbed Ockie Breedt Jnr eight times. Attackers are still on the loose. Breedt is in a stable condition.
“Limpopo rural communities groups, farmers, and farm workers are in danger as the police have constrained personnel and resource to avert brutal crime in separated and huge rural areas,” said Smalle.
He said the country’s rural communities, regardless of class or race, deserve a government that matters to keep them safe.
“We further call on all leaders of the society to denounce assaults, such as these and not utilise inflammatory language that may incite violence, amid the civil debate encompassing land and land reform,” added Smalle.
He said the country needs sober leadership to manage the issues around rural safety and land and not populist talk that could fuel conflict and violence.
