The police at Villa Nora outside Lephalale are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
This is after three females and two men lost their lives when a Toyota bakkie they were travelling in overturned and rolled several times.
Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed the accident on Friday.
“According to the information, twenty six (26) people were loaded in an open bakkie when the driver lost control along the R518 next to Shongoane 1 when the vehicle slammed,” said Ngoepe.
They were going for a congregation service at Marapong Township outside Lephalale.
Ngoepe said three people died in a flash and two succumbed to injuries on arrival in Lephalale District hospital.
He said the names of the deceased will be released once the closest relative have been told.
“The reason for the accident in not known at this stage,” added Ngoepe.
He said police are investigating were continuing.
