The mushrooming of drugs in several areas in Limpopo province remains one of the primary contributing factors of serious and violent crimes.
In Lephalale, Mahwelereng, Giyani, Makhado, Mankweng, Polokwane and Tzaneen Clusters, 16 suspects aged between 23 and 46 were arrested for being in possession of drugs, dagga and planting dagga.
Recovered during this operations were 200 sachets of nyaope, four parcels of rock, twelve sachets of nyaope, twelve bundles of dagga, 80 × little plastics of nyaope, 1457 grams of dagga, 22.753 kg of dagga plants and 85 dagga plants.
Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said in a statement on Monday, in a concerted effort to eradicate this dangerous phenomenon, the Intelligence led joined operations made out of different police units, keep on yielding constructive and significant outcomes.
“In the Bela-Bela and Modimolle Policing areas, four suspects between the age of 25 and 33 were arrested for dealing in drugs and for being in possession of drugs along the N1 South between Pienaarsriver and Bela-Bela and near the Kranskop plaza outside Modimolle,” said Ngoepe.
Ngoepe said this joint activity made out of the Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Drug Team and the Provincial Detectives, was focussing on these two Clusters.
“These syndicates were intercepted and their cars were pulled off the road at these two places while they were on the way to go and supply these drugs at different parts of the Province,” added Ngoepe.
During this activity, said Ngoepe a total of 39 balls of nyaope each containing 850 sachets with the estimated street value of over R300 000, 00 was recovered.
The suspects will soon appear before various Magistrate’s Courts soon.The police investigations are still continuing.
