Violent protest suspects in court

A group of suspects appeared briefly in the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, facing charges of malicious damaged to property, public violence, and business robbery.

Limpopo Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspects, Jan Moselane (31) who is a local councillor, Albert None (29), Eric Molepo (36), Ephriam Thutlwa (43),Isaac Modipa (25),Job Mocheko (21), Johanna Molebatsi(38), Lazarus Kamusa (27), William Mothoni (38), Albert Modipa (30),John Hlungwane(35), Ngwako Medupi (28),Thato Moraba (19), Gift Mapaya (29), Jonas Montshiwa (32), Letta Madira (38) were not asked to plead and the case was postponed to July 4 for further investigations.

Their bail of R1 500 each was extended.

 Ngoepe said the suspects were arrested in separate incidents relating to public violence, malicious damage to property and business robbery.

“Their arrest follows an incident which took place at Ga-Seleka village outside Lephalale where four trucks and a bus were burnt to ashes on May 8, 2018,” said Ngoepe.

Ngoepe said police investigations in all these incidents are continuing.
