EFF councillor appear before Ethics Committee

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Councillor Jan Moselane will today [Wednesday] appear for the second time before the ethics committee for his alleged social media utterances.

The ANC-led the charge in calling for action against Moselane for his alleged misconduct dating back to Facebook statement he made earlier this year against the Mayor of Lephalale Municipality, honourable Moloko Jack Maeko.

This emerged on February 5, 2018 when Madam Speaker Regina Molokomme informed Moselane that her office received a letter of complaint regarding allegations of misconduct on Facebook against the Mayor and attacking the political and administrative leadership of the municipality.

According to the statement, Moselane point the finger at the Mayor, accusing him of being a corrupt leader, involved with hiring processes of companies in Lephalale.

“The municipality system act 32 of 2000 doesn’t support what Jack Maeko is doing. There is nothing that Jack can do without authorisation by council of Lephalale Municipality which I am part of it and don’t remember myself and other councillors given powers to hire people. I have send a letter with questions. I was asking in what capacity is Jack performing all nonsenses. I never got a response. I’m making a humble request to all residents of Lephalale that loves their municipality to be ready. We must give Jack Maeko a visit in his office which people gave him so he must explain his madness,” the statement in part quoted Moselane as saying in his facebook page.

The council referred the matter, for breach of Code of Conduct to the Ethics Committee on March 29, 2018 for investigations.

The person who is mainly responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct is the speaker of the local council.

Molokomme must investigate if there is a reasonable suspicion that the Code of Conduct has not been complied with.

Meanwhile, EFF members including community structures are this morning [Wednesday] expected to stage a demonstration outside Lephalale Municipality’s Civic Centre in support of Moselane.
