Scores of Limpopo municipalities, alongside 108 others across the country under the ANC-led government, are not conforming to Municipal Property Rates Act, according to Jacques Smalle, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Limpopo Spokesperson on Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (Coghsta).
Lephalale, Greater Giyani, Greater Letaba, Musina, Thulamela, Collins Chabane, Blouberg, Molemole, Lepelle Nkumpi, Mogalakwena, Modimolle – Mookgophong, Ephraim Mogale, Elias Motsoaledi, Makhuduthamaga and Fetakgomo-Tubatse are among those spurning the Act.
Smalle said municipalities neglected to proclaim their exact rates for the 2018/2019 budgetary year in the provincial gazzette.
“The DA has kept in touch with the provincial Coghsta MEC, Jerry Ndou, to directly act against 15 Limpopo municipalities for their rebelliousness with MPRA, neglecting to announce their impose rates for the 2018/2019 financial year in the provincial gazzette,” said Smalle.
Smalle said DA urges MEC Ndou to take suitable strides in the municipalities that are resistant with this Act to ensure they publisice their determination of the requiring rates.
As indicated by this Act, Section 14 (2), all the municipalities must proclaim all their tolls within 60 days in the provincial gazette after they have taken the resolution and adopted in Council.
This Act further shows the following on the adopted resolution regarding the levies:
The date on which the resolution was passed, it must differentiate between categories of properties and reflect the cent amount in the rand rate for each category.
