The South Gauteng High Court, sitting in Palmridge, on Monday sentenced Mbuso Phakhati (36) of Protea Glen, Soweto to 15 years for the murder of Neo Masemola.
Masemola succumbed to the gunshot wound to his head, five days after he was admitted to Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
The high court judge sentenced Phakathi to 15 years for murder.
Phakathi was further handed down to eight years for attempted murder and six months for assault – the sentences will run concurrently.
Phakathi will effectively spend 15 years in jail.
The sentence follows police investigation into the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Masemola and injuring of Lerato Makhanya and Kwena Moletsane and assaulting Khotso Malefane by knocking him with his car while fleeing the scene outside Rockerfella Lounge in Molapo, Soweto on February 4, 2018.

The case went on trial at the South Gauteng High Court in Palm Ridge from February 5-13 and the accused was found guilty on four counts – murder, two attempted murder and assault.
