The Democratic Alliance (DA) is demanding the release of the Public Protector’s report on President Cyril Ramaphosa relating to alleged Bosasa scandal.
“The report is 6 months overdue, release it immediately,” the opposition party said.
Daily Maverick reported on Monday someone leaked the report to the Sunday Independent containing information on a payment made by Bosasa’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gavin Watson.
In a statement on Monday, DA Leader Mmusi Maimane demand Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane release report within 48 hours
“Today I will write to the Public Protector, Advocate Mkhwebane, requesting her to release the full unredacted report within the next 48 hours,” said Maimane.
Over 6 months ago, President Ramaphosa misled Parliament about the R500 000 “donation” from Watson and clear conflict of interest that exists between him, his son, Andile Ramaphosa and Bosasa.
Maimane said he submitted a complaint to the Public Protector on November 23, 2018, about the President misleading parliament.
This relates to a conflict of interest in the relationship between the President, his son and Bossa.
The Public Protector must investigate an alleged breach of the code of ethics by a member of the National Assembly.
Advocate Mkhwebane was supposed to submit a report within 30 days of receipt of the complaint.
“The report is almost 6 months overdue leaving her with no choice but to act at once and release the report in the public’s interest,” said Maimane.
Maimane said the immediate release of this report will leave no room for further leaks and speculation.
It will allow the public and Parliament to hold President Ramaphosa to account for his actions.
“It is high-time that Presidents and their families’ who mislead Parliament are treated as equal before and held to account to the fullest might of the law” added Maimane.Follow us on Social Media
