A 51-year-old Thabazimbi pastor is behind bars allegedly for sexually assaulting a minor in the wake of taking her to a close-by river for supposed healing, police said on Friday.
Limpopo Provincial Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspect, accused of raping a 12-year-old girl will appear in the local Magistrate’s Court.
“The mother alleges the suspect landed at their home at 4:30 pm on Monday for a prayer session and afterward revealed to her the girl is sick. He further claims the girl ought to go with him to the closest river to heal her,” said Ngoepe.
Police said the girl’s mom ended up stressed when the two did not return and informed her partner to search for them.
“The stunned father couldn’t believe his eyes when he sees his girl half-stripped, running and shouting for assistance. The terrified girl at that point claimed the pastor sexually assaulted her,” said Ngoepe
Police arrested the suspect after the parents notified them of the episode.
“We opened a rape case against the pastor,” said Ngoepe.
Limpopo Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers has condemned with the strongest terms, the continuous acts of sexual violence perpetrated against children.
“We urged parents to take care of their children and not abandon them into the hands of strangers regardless of their religious beliefs.
This will help to avoid these similar incidents to occur,” added Scheepers.Follow us on Social Media
