Thabazimbi pastor appeared in the Bela Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police arrested Pastor Tapiwa Jenje (51) on Monday allegedly after raping a 12-year-old girl.
The court did not ask him to plead and it postponed the case to June 27, 2019, pending further police investigations
It [court] remanded him into custody.
Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said Pastor Jenje took the little girl from her unsuspecting mother to a nearby river with the pretext he would heal her but raped her.
“The mother alleges the suspect landed at their home at 4:30 pm on Monday, June 17 for a prayer session and afterward revealed to her the girl is sick. He further claims the girl ought to go with him to the closest river to heal her,” said Ngoepe.
Police said the girl’s mom ended up stressed when the two did not return and informed her partner to search for them.
“The stunned father couldn’t believe his eyes when he sees his girl half-stripped, running and shouting for help. The terrified girl at that point claimed the pastor sexually assaulted her,” said Ngoepe
Police arrested the suspect after the parents notified them of the episode.
“We opened a rape case against the pastor,” said Ngoepe.
Limpopo Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers has on Monday condemned with the strongest terms, the continuous acts of sexual violence perpetrated against children.
“We urged parents to take care of their children and not abandon them into the hands of strangers regardless of their religious beliefs.
