Limpopo police crime blitz nabbed hundreds of suspects

Limpopo nine-day crime blitz com­pris­ing dif­fer­ent units nabbed 866 sus­pects for var­i­ous offences in sev­er­al parts of the province, police said on Tues­day.

Police Spokesper­son, Colonel Moat­she Ngoepe said the units arrest­ed sus­pects aged between 19 and 51 for mur­der, attempt­ed mur­der, busi­ness, and house rob­bery, armed rob­bery, bur­glary res­i­den­tial, and busi­ness and rape.

He said police found oth­ers in pos­ses­sion of unli­censed firearms and ammu­ni­tion, pos­ses­sion of drugs and sus­pect­ed stolen prop­er­ties.

Ngoepe said police affect­ed the arrests dur­ing the nine-day oper­a­tion dubbed “New Dawn” which began on June 17 cov­er­ing all clus­ters of the Province.

Var­i­ous provin­cial police units clus­ter and sta­tion lev­el made the oper­a­tions.

They are com­pris­ing Crime Intel­li­gence, crime pre­ven­tion, the Detec­tives, the Pub­lic Order Police Unit, K9 Unit, and the Tac­ti­cal Response Team.

Ngoepe said simul­ta­ne­ous oper­a­tions aim at sta­bil­is­ing and nor­mal­is­ing the crime-infest­ed areas.

Police did this through road­blocks, stop and search­es, trac­ing of want­ed sus­pects and raid­ing of unli­censed busi­ness­es includ­ing liquor out­lets.

“Police issued 1001 traf­fic fines, closed eight she­beens, con­fis­cat­ed five cars, com­put­ers, 27 knives,10 firearms, cash, TVs, cell­phones, drugs weigh­ing over 230g and oth­er items,” said Moat­she.

Ngoepe said the sus­pects will appear before var­i­ous magistrate’s courts around the Province.

Act­ing Provin­cial Com­mis­sion­er, Major Gen­er­al Jan Scheep­ers has appre­ci­at­ed all the arrests and com­mend­ed the Saps mem­bers who took part in these oper­a­tions for their excel­lent job.
