Limpopo nine-day crime blitz comprising different units nabbed 866 suspects for various offences in several parts of the province, police said on Tuesday.
Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the units arrested suspects aged between 19 and 51 for murder, attempted murder, business, and house robbery, armed robbery, burglary residential, and business and rape.
He said police found others in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs and suspected stolen properties.
Ngoepe said police affected the arrests during the nine-day operation dubbed “New Dawn” which began on June 17 covering all clusters of the Province.
Various provincial police units cluster and station level made the operations.
They are comprising Crime Intelligence, crime prevention, the Detectives, the Public Order Police Unit, K9 Unit, and the Tactical Response Team.
Ngoepe said simultaneous operations aim at stabilising and normalising the crime-infested areas.
Police did this through roadblocks, stop and searches, tracing of wanted suspects and raiding of unlicensed businesses including liquor outlets.
“Police issued 1001 traffic fines, closed eight shebeens, confiscated five cars, computers, 27 knives,10 firearms, cash, TVs, cellphones, drugs weighing over 230g and other items,” said Moatshe.
Ongoing Police investigations are still yet to prove the origin of the recovered firearms
Ngoepe said the suspects will appear before various magistrate’s courts around the Province.
