A joint police units including farmers and private security led to the arrest of rhino poaching syndicate suspects in Modimolle and Vaalwater outside Lephalale, spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said on Wednesday.
Ngoepe said police arrested three suspects following an incident which occurred in the Rankin’s Pass area outside Modimolle, where the syndicate killed one rhino and removed two horns.
“Farmers immediately notified the police. With the support of their helicopter police followed their tracks until they arrested three suspects in Rankin’s Pass and Vaalwater area. Manhunt is still underway for two other identified suspects on the run,” said Ngoepe.
He said the three suspects aged between 31 and 37 will appear in the Modimolle and Vaalwater Magistrate’s Courts.
Acting Limpopo Police Commissioner, Major General Samuel Manala has commended the sting units including private security and farmers who took part during the arrest for the job well done.
