Over 1 000 Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores in South Africa, will this year ensure a satisfying Black Friday shopping experience with ample staff and extended trading hours.
In a statement on Wednesday, General Manager and Marketing at Shoprite and Checkers, Willie Peters said Africa’s largest retailer is gearing up for its sixth Black Friday sales bonanza on Friday, November 29,2019.
He said both Shoprite and Checkers customers will stock up for the fast-approaching holiday period with massive discounts on various grocery and household essentials.
“Extensive planning begins six months in advance to make sure we give customers the very best Black Friday experience. As with previous years, we will again stay true to what Black Friday is about — deep-cut specials that offer real value.
We have been hard at work to secure the best deals and to make sure we stock all our stores.
We are looking forward make this year’s Black Friday our biggest yet. Considering the pressure many households are under given the current economic environment, we have worked with our suppliers to identify discounts that will offer meaningful savings and value to all,” said Peters.
Peters said Checkers is the most experienced South African supermarket in the Black Friday game, after being the first food retailer to introduce this one-day sales promotion in South Africa in 2014.
Compared to 2018 Black Friday in which Shoprite, Checkers and Checkers Hyper stores served 125 customers per second, said Peters this year will be big considering extended shopping hours and the recently launched Xtra Savings rewards programme.
In 2018 [Black Friday] the retailer sold Jacobs instant coffee enough to make 7.7 million cups of coffee, Ultramel custard enough to make trifle for over two million people.
“This year, members of the Xtra Savings rewards programme will be the first to receive advance notifications of the incredible Black Friday deals on offer at Checkers. Two million customers have signed up for Xtra Savings in just 20 days following the launch of the programme in mid-October,” said Peters.
Peters has encouraged shoppers to join Xtra Savings ahead of this year’s Black Friday, saying Xtra Savings members also stand a chance to win their Black Friday shopping for free.
Some mega-deals offered in 2018 included a 50% saving on OMO washing powder and 40% off items such as Jacobs instant coffee, Weetbix and Ultramel custard.Follow us on Social Media
