Hilux’s sales in March were close to 4000

Toyota South Africa (TSAM) sold 10,797 vehicles in March 2021. The total sales volume in February was 2,082 units, higher than the 8,715 bought in the same period last year. Hilux recorded 3,941 transactions, followed by HiAce Ses’Fikile with 1,348 sales, Urban Cruiser 997, and Fortuner 966.

The total amount accounts for 24.2% of the industry’s total sales of 44,217 units.

Toyota’s breakdown is as follows: 5,783 light commercial vehicles, 4,726 passenger vehicles, and 155 light commercial vehicles, of which 98 and 35 were recorded in the HCV and super-heavy commercial vehicle divisions.

“Total domestic sales in March 2021 were 44,217 vehicles, a 31.8% increase from the 33,546 vehicles sold in the same month last year. Export sales also grew by 38.6% compared with March 2020.

Export sales grew significantly in March 2021, compared with the same month in the previous year. Compared to 28889 exported, this is an increase of 11,137 units of 38.6% to 40046.,” According to data provided by the South African National Automobile Manufacturers Association (NAAMSA).

South Africans’ favorites and long-time leaders-Hilux and Hiace-both set industry-leading sales of 3,941 and 1,348 in the LCV segment.

Notable performances in the passenger segment include the debut of Urban Cruiser (nearly 1,000) (977), Fortuner (966), Starlet (721), Corolla Quest (582), and Agya (531).

TSAM Hino truck division sold 262 vehicles.

Hino sales 300 series were strong sales of 129 vehicles (19% of the MCV segment), while the Hino 500 series recorded sales of 98 new trucks (19%  HCV segment).

Toyota’s niche luxury brand Lexus performed on NX (14), ES (11), LX (9), and UX (9).

TSAM Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Leon Theron said Toyota is proud that it has provided 1.5 million parts to our domestic distributors, and 335,000 parts shipped overseas.
