In a tragic case of alleged adultery, a 40-year-old police sergeant stationed at Lephalale Police Station had shot and killed his wife, Pauline Molekwa (57), with a service pistol before firing the deadly weapon on himself.

Pauline was an employee at the local municipality

The ghastly incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 6:00 p.m. in Marapong, the sprawling township in Lephalale. The police statement suggest that the love triangle ended tragically.

Preliminary investigations revealed that an argument started after the cop’s wife asked him questions about a certain woman. A quarrel ensured. An angry husband reportedly pulled out a gun and shot his wife. A wounded wife ran away and collapsed outside the house.

A spokesperson for the Limpopo police, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said a neighbour was alerted to the scene by a sound of a gunfire.

“Upon  arrival, the neighbour wrestled with an enraged police officer to disarm him, but managed to remove magazine from his gun. Then the policeman rushed inside the house to get another loaded magazine. He again opened fire and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself,” said Brigadier Mojapelo.

Brigadier Mojapelo said police had opened a case of murder and an inquest docket, adding that a service pistol, and magazines used to carry out the dual killings had been confiscated.
