The African Transformation Movement (ATM) says it has submitted supplementary charges against President Cyril Ramaphosa to Speaker of the National Assembly Nosiviwe Mapisa-Ngcakula for consideration by the Independent Panel that will investigate the February 2020 robbery at his Phala Phala farm.
In his submission, Vuyo Zungula, the president of ATM, said that the charges against the president constitute a grave violation of the law.
“If the President breaches the Constitution by not upholding it, this can be seen as a breach of his oath of office.”
In accordance with bank regulations, the President was required to notify the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) when he brought in foreign currency.
Zungula said Ramaphosa admitted that money was stolen from his Phala Phala game farm, but he was vague about the amount and how it entered the country.
He said this was revealed in a letter from the South African Reserve Bank, which also asked about the currency’s origins and transactions.
If the money had entered the country legally, according to Zungula, the SARB systems would accurately reflect all pertinent information, eliminating the need for them to write to him.
