Beitbridge task team nabs two ‘foreigners’ with explosives

Two ‘foreign nationals’ arrested on Friday along the N1 national route in possession of explosives will appear in the Musina Magistrate Court on Monday.

The suspects were apprehended by members of the Beitbridge Task Team, according to Limpopo Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

“The team was doing a stop-and-frisk operation on the N1 road between Musina and Beitbridge when they came across a suspicious blue Toyota Corolla sedan with two occupants. During the search of the vehicle, our members discovered four bags containing 247 blasting cartridges, 1,250 connector-capped fuses, and seven reels of detonating cords,” said Lt Col Ledwaba.

He said the two suspects, thought to be foreigners, were arrested.

The police seized the vehicle and the explosives.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the members’ commitment to combating crime.

The suspects were apprehended by members of the Beitbridge Task Team, according to Limpopo Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

“The team was conducting a stop-and-frisk operation on the N1 road between Musina and Beitbridge when they came across a suspicious blue Toyota Corolla sedan with two occupants.  Members discovered four bags containing 247 blasting cartridges, 1,250 connector-capped fuses, and seven reels of detonating cords during a search of the vehicle,” said Lt Col Ledwaba.

He stated that the suspects, who are thought to be foreigners, were taken into custody.

Police seized the explosives along with vehicle.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised the members’ dedication to fighting crime.

Lt Col Ledwaba said police are investigating the originality of these explosives and where they were supposed to go.
