Biden and Ramaphosa vow to strengthen US-SA ties

United States President Joe Biden and his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa pledge to strengthen ties between the two countries.

In a telephonic conversation on Tuesday evening, US President Biden congratulated President Ramaphosa on his recent election and the successful formation of the Government of National Unity in South Africa.

The two head of states expressed their commitment to advancing the special relationship between their countries, with a focus on key areas such as economic growth, job creation, social development, and climate change.

In a statement, Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson to President Ramaphosa, confirmed President Biden called President Ramaphosa congratulating him on recent election and successful GNU formation, pledging the United States’ full support for the seventh administration in South Africa.

Magwenya said the support will include collaboration on South Africa’s upcoming Presidency of the G20 in 2025, with President Biden even confirming his intention to visit South Africa and participate in the G20 meetings.

President Ramaphosa, in turn, expressed his appreciation for President Biden’s commitment and extended an invitation for him to undertake a State visit to South Africa.

Magwenya said dates for the visit will be confirmed by respective diplomatic teams.
