Several homes in Rebone township, Steiloop near Marken are being flooded with raw sewage streaming for more than two weeks without any solution in sight.
“It comes from the blocked sewer manhole, and there are feces, used sanitary products in the water,” said Elizabeth Molokomme, mother of a 7-year-old child.
She said their yards resemble a dirty lake.
“The stench is terrible, as wet feces flow continuously past their doors for days now, without any help from Mogalakwena Municipality,” said Molokomme.
She says sometimes people get trapped by the stench and flow of sewerage, making it impossible to perform chores or do their shopping.
“We don’t know who to turn to for help. Our local ANC councillor told us to get help from EFF because we voted for them,” claimed Molokomme.
It’s terrifying for Molokomme, who is raising a 7-year-old son, and fears the catastrophe will also affect their health.
“It is my plea to the municipality to assist us. Our health is at risk. We also need to consult with a doctor,” added Molokomme.
