COVID-19-related illnesses killed164 people in SA

In light of the new reports, the National Department of Health confirms that 164 have died from COVID-19 related illnesses in the last 24 hours, bringing to 87,216 the total number of deaths in South Africa.

A total of 17 588 025 tests were performed in the public and private sectors.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said there were 578 new cases reported in South Africa on Monday, bringing the total to 2 897 521 laboratory-confirmed cases.

According to the current definition, NICD said South Africa has exited the third wave, and positive and testing rates are all dropping across the country, with consistent declines in all provinces.

The majority of new cases in the last 24 hours were detected in KwaZulu-Natal, which accounted for 22 percent of the total, followed by Gauteng with 19 percent.

Other provinces are the Western Cape, which accounted for 16%, Free State (15%), Eastern Cape (9%), North West (8%), Northern Cape (6%), Mpumalanga (4%), and Limpopo (2%).
