DA welcomes Free State appointments, reiterates call for corruption crackdown

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has taken note of the recent appointments made by the newly elected Premier, Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae, of Members of the Executive Council (MECs) in the Free State.

This comes after the African National Congress secured a majority in the 2024 South African election for the province, with 53% of the votes and 16 seats in the legislature.

The DA, with 21.88% of the votes and 7 seats, is now the main opposition in the Free State.

Free State DA leader, Roy Jankielsohn, has applauded the appointments as a significant step towards addressing governance gaps in the province.

Jankielsohn also highlighted the need to tackle corruption, a longstanding issue in the Free State.

Premier Letsoha-Mathae has promised to build an ethical state and combat corruption, a commitment that the DA will closely monitor.

The party reaffirms its dedication to serving as an effective opposition in the Free State legislature, holding the governing party accountable and advocating for transparent and accountable governance.

With 62% of people in the Free State living in poverty, the DA remains committed to championing the interests of residents and pushing for progress and restoration in the province.

As the Free State enters a new chapter under the leadership of Premier Letsoha-Mathae, the DA looks forward to working towards a brighter future for all.
