EFF slams DA for embracing ‘racist’ MP, vows to take complaint to speaker

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has expressed outrage over the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) appointment of Renaldo Gouws as an MP, accusing the party of providing a platform for racist views.

In a statement  on Tuesday, EFF accused  DA of providing a platform for racists like Gouws, who now have a voice in the highest levels of leadership and policy making.

The red beret  believes DA legitimises bigoted views.

The EFF also claims  the ANC, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, is also guilty of providing shelter to racists.

While the EFF supports the demand for Gouws to be removed from Parliament, they acknowledge  this will not stop the DA from promoting colonialism and apartheid.

The EFF believes  the real issue lies in removing the DA as representative of the people.

The DA says it is internally handling the issue of recently appointed MP Renaldo Gouws, who is facing backlash on social media due to a resurfaced video from 16 years ago that is being labelled as racist.

A petition launched on Monday to revoke his membership has garnered nearly 40,000 signatures.

Gouws, a former Nelson Mandela Bay ward councillor, posted the video on YouTube in 2009 expressing his views on reverse apartheid and discrimination against white South Africans.

He explained that the video was a response to then president Jacob Zuma and ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema’s controversial “kill the boer” chant.

Gouws stated that he has addressed the sentiments in the video on multiple occasions, most recently in 2016 and 2020.

DA spokesperson Solly Malatsi confirmed that they are handling the situation internally.
