Democratic Alliance (DA) says the EFF unveiling of its local government election manifesto in Johannesburg on Sunday clearly violated the COVID-19 level 2 lockdown restriction, which prohibits outdoor gathering with more than 500 people.

According to DA Chief Whip Natasha Mazzone, pictures and videos from the EFF gathering show an exceedingly large crowd of attendees, putting the party in direct violation of the current adjusted level 2 lockdown regulation, which limits outdoor gatherings to 500 people.
Mazzone claimed the EFF used its supporters as political proxies to skirt the law.
“We call on Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, and the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Glen Mashinini, to jointly review what appears to be blatantly illegal campaigning by the EFF,” said Mazzone.
She said the EFF’s manifesto launch is an illegal gathering, and their display is comparable to illegal campaigning.
“The IEC must act responsibly and hold the EFF accountable. This is an illegal assembly that jeopardizes the election being free and fair during the campaign period. The EFF is in danger of being deregistered as a political party, “according to Mazzone.
