Election update: ANC leads in most provinces, DA retains Western Cape, MK triumphs in KwaZulu-Natal

The most recent provincial election results reveal a dynamic political landscape, with the African National Congress (ANC) dominating in most provinces while the Democratic Alliance (DA) maintains a stronghold in the Western Cape. 

The uMkhonto weSizwe party (MK) has also made a significant impact by securing the votes in KwaZulu-Natal. 

According to the Independent Electoral Commission’s results dashboard, as of 5 pm on Saturday, shows a fierce competition among three major political parties for the support of the people.

In Limpopo, the ANC reigns supreme with a staggering 74.25% of the votes, followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) at 12.96% and the DA trailing in third place with 6.08%. 

Moving to the Eastern Cape, the ANC maintains a strong lead with 63% of the votes, while the DA falls behind at 14.5% and the EFF at 10.6%. 

The North West province also sees the ANC in a dominant position with 58.43% of the votes, followed by the EFF at 16.4% and the DA at 13.46%.

Heading to the Free State, the ANC continues to hold a significant lead with 52.88% of the votes, followed by the DA at 21.31% and the EFF at 13.09%. 

In Mpumalanga, the ANC remains the top choice with 51.86% of the votes, followed by MK at 17.25% and the EFF at 12.71%. 

The Northern Cape also sees the ANC in the lead with 49.3% of the votes, while the DA and EFF both hold 12.79%.

But the province of Gauteng presents a different picture, with the ANC still leading but with a smaller margin at 36.49% of the votes, followed by the DA at 26.79% and the EFF at 12.45%. 

In the Western Cape, the DA takes the lead with 53.11% of the votes, while the ANC and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) follow with 17.53% and 7.33% respectively.

And in the hotly contested province of KwaZulu-Natal, MK has taken the lead with 45.93% of the votes,  followed by the ANC at 17.63% and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) at 16.29%. 

Looking at the leading party in each voting district, the ANC holds the majority with 40.17% support and 6,424,665 votes, followed by the DA at 21.82% support and 3,489,134 votes, and MK at 14.60% support and 2,334,166 votes.

Out of the country votes show the following results:

DA received 29,401 votes, accounting for 75.23% of the total valid votes.

– EFF received 1,721 votes, accounting for 4.4% of the total valid votes.

– ANC received 1,532 votes, accounting for 3.92% of the total valid votes.

– A total of 39,084 voters participated in the election out of 67 registered voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 58,802.

– The total number of valid votes cast was 39,116, with 32 votes being spoiled.

This data gives an overview of the election outcomes, voter engagement, and the distribution of votes among the top three parties.
