This milestone underscores Eskom’s commitment to improving efficiencies through investments in the Generation Recovery Plan, which has led to substantial cost savings and enhanced operational performance.
According to a recent report, Eskom has seen diesel savings soar to R14.6 billion year-on-year, marking a remarkable 70.3% drop compared to the same period last year.
The coal fleet’s improved performance is expected to bring further savings in the coming weeks and months.
Despite a recent setback at Unit 6 of the Kriel Power Station, Eskom has reassured the public that this incident has not impacted its ability to meet the nation’s electricity demands.
Thanks to a drastic decline in the average rate of unplanned outages, Eskom has been able to focus on more planned maintenance efforts and boost its generation capacity.
With ongoing advancements in the Energy Availability Factor (EAF) and steadfast planned maintenance, Eskom is confident in its ability to effectively meet electricity demand.
Looking ahead, Eskom’s summer outlook for the period from September 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, anticipates a summer free from loadshedding, thanks to enhancements in generation infrastructure.
