Eskom: Stage 2 load-shedding continues

Eskom says it will continue to implement stage 2 load-shedding until Wednesday.

The Power Utility said despite the return of the generating unit at the Matimba and Medupi power plants in Lephalale over the past two days, more breakdowns occurred at Tutuka, Majuba, Kusile, Matimba, Duvha, and full load restoration on the Cahora Bassa line.

In a statement on Sunday, Eskom said it regrets to inform the public that implementing Stage 2 load-shedding will continue through to Wednesday, because of constrained generation capacity.

“We have 6,545 MW in scheduled maintenance, while an additional 12,915 MW of capacity is unavailable because of breakdowns and delays.

This has led to our inability to meet demand,” the statement read.

Eskom said it continues to implement reliability maintenance during this period and the strained system will continue with the possibility of load-shedding remaining high
