After months of consistent electricity supply, Eskom has issued a warning about the possibility of load-shedding on short notice.
Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane stated that multiple breakdowns in the past week have caused strains on the generation fleet, leading to the need to tap into emergency reserves.
In a statement on Friday, Marokane assured the public that Eskom is closely monitoring the situation and may need to implement load-shedding of up to Stage 4 over the weekend.
While this setback is likely temporary, Eskom urges the public to stay informed on further updates in the near future.
Despite the potential for loadshedding, Eskom’s Generation Recovery Plan has been instrumental in overcoming previous challenges, thanks to structural enhancements in the generation fleet. Marokane emphasised the importance of replenishing the emergency reserves to meet demand and ensure sustainable electricity supply.
As Eskom works to address the breakdowns and potential risk of loadshedding, the public is advised to stay tuned for more developments.
