The highly anticipated major retrospective of Dr Esther Mahlangu’s life’s work is set to make its way to the Wits Art Museum in Johannesburg this November.

Mahlangu’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a celebrated artist will be charted through archival material spanning fifty decades.

With support from the National Arts Council and the BMW Group, the retrospective at WAM aims to celebrate Mahlangu’s legacy and global impact.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Serpentine Gallery in London will honor Mahlangu with the unveiling of a 9m x 5m mural titled ‘Umuntu ngumuntu ngabuntu’ during Frieze London.
