A Northern Cape father has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his biological daughter, aged 19.
In September of this year, a 38-year-old father forced himself on his daughter after returning home from a family funeral where they had been drinking alcohol during After Tears gathering.
The father found his biological daughter sleeping in his shack and raped her, says Northern Cape National Prosecution Authority spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane.
“Due to being tired, the victim went home between 8pm and 930pm. When she arrived, the main house was locked, so she went and slept at her father’s shack, which is behind the main house,” he said.
He said that the father had arrived later, found his daughter sleeping in his shack, and raped her.
“The victim tried to scream but the accused told her to keep quiet. After he finished raping her, the victim managed to escape the shack and went to report the matter to the police,” said Senokoatsane.
The accused was arrested on September 12 appeared in De Aar Regional Court the same day facing rape charge and did not wish to apply for bail.
On September 29, 2022, the accused voluntarily approached the Investigating Officer for the case, and informed him that he wanted to give a confession, which was taken.
On October 27, 2022, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge of rape, and was sentenced to life in prison.
The court also ordered that the accused’s name be entered in the National Register of Sexual Offenders and that he be declared unfit to possess a firearm.
