Father jailed 22 years for raping, and impregnating her daughter,17

A 38-year old father was sentenced to 22 years in jail for raping his 17- year-old biological daughter and getting her pregnant.

According to police the heinous crime occurred near at Mahushu grave site outside Hazyview in March 2019.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the father lured his daughter into believing he was going to visit her ancestral home so he could perform rituals for her.

“When she arrived, her father wasn’t home, but his grandmother called him and told him about her daughter’s arrival. He came immediately and didn’t bring anything for the rituals. Her daughter asked him to take her back home because it was already late.

According to Brigadier Mohlala her father then offered to escort her home, knowing very well he had orchestrated an ill-fated plot against his own daughter.

At around 9pm, next to Mahushu graveside, the victim had been instructed at gunpoint by an evil man to undress, then he raped her

“He further cautioned her not to tell anyone else about the ordeal,’ said Brigadier Mohlala.

A month later, in April 2019 the victim found herself pregnant, but even then, she never opened up to anybody. In August 2019 she finally broke her silence about what happened to her on that fateful night.

A rape case was investigated after the matter came to the police’s attention,” said a spokesperson.

Police later arrested the man on August 30, 2019, and then charged him accordingly. He appeared in a court where bail was successfully objected by the state.

Brigadier Mohlala said the suspects remained in detention until he was sentenced at Nelspruit Regional court on August 11, 2022 to 22 years.

Lieutenant General Semakali Daphney Manamala, the Mpumulanga police commissioner, has welcomed the sentence, and praised the detectives, prosecutors, and judiciary.

“We hope that this sentence will deter people from thinking they can ruthlessly abuse their children without any consequences,” said Lt. Gen Manamela.
