The Limpopo police are investigating appalling arson case where an enraged mob is said to have set fire to a 45 year old woman’s house and another one belonging to her son in Mudimeli Village, Vhembe District on Saturday morning..
It is reported that the mob accused the mother of practicing witchcraft and violently demanded to search her house for muthi.
The situation worsened when the mob proceeded to the son’s house, which was also set ablaze.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, Provincial Spokesperson, declared that the total estimated damage amounts to R200 000-00.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported and the victims and their families have been offered counseling and assistance from the local Police Station Victim Empowerment Service.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Limpopo Police Commissioner, condemned the incident and urged community members to come forward with information that could assist in the investigation.
“We will not tolerate any misconduct like this, and the team assigned to hunt down the suspects must do so urgently so they can face the consequences of their actions,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe
