Gauteng has the most COVID-19 cases compared to other provinces

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 8,561 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24-hour period.

As part of the National Health Laboratory Service, NICD continues to provide laboratory-based surveillance to inform public health responses to COVID-19 in South Africa.

In parallel, the National Department of Health has confirmed 28 deaths related to the virus.

So far, 89,871 fatalities have been recorded.

Department of Health data shows 2 976 613 COVID-19 cases confirmed in South Africa to date, including 8 561 new cases recorded.

In total, 2 850 142 people made a full recovery, translating to a 95.8 percent success rate.

According to latest statistics, most recently COVID-19 cases are reported in Gauteng, accounting for 72 percent, and followed by the Western Cape with 7 percent.

KwaZulu-Natal accounted for 6 percent. Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 4 percent, Limpopo 3 percent, Free State 2 percent, Eastern Cape 1 percent and. Northern Cape accounted for less than 1 percent.
