Toyota had an impressive month in June, with 13,016 sales, making it their best performance of the year. They had a market share of 27.8%, their highest year-to-date, and they expect 2023 to be another solid year for the brand.
The Hilux was the top-selling vehicle in South Africa, with 3,792 registrations. The majority of these were Double Cabs, followed by Single Cabs and Xtra Cabs.
The Land Cruiser 79 also performed well in the LCV space, with 342 units sold, particularly the 4.5 V8 diesel variant. The HiAce had a respectable 1,364 sales for the month.
In the passenger car segment, Toyota had three models in the top five. The Corolla Cross was the number one passenger car, with 2,115 sales.
The Fortuner, still benefiting from its recent launch, achieved an impressive retail figure of 1,639 units, putting it ahead in the medium-sized SUV segment.
The Starlet came in fifth place with 1,415 sales.
The Land Cruiser 300 range had 203 sales, and the NX was the strongest model for the Lexus brand with 43 units sold.
In terms of parts supply, Toyota distributed close to 1.5 million pieces locally and shipped an additional 320,000 pieces to foreign markets.
Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Leon Theron expressed gratitude for the brand’s success in June.
“Despite a challenging trading environment, customers continue to support Toyota due to their trust in the brand and their ability to deliver the right product at the right price,” said Theron.
Theron also acknowledged the important role played by their dealer network in providing excellent service to customers.
