Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber is leading the charge in a groundbreaking move to bring the department into the digital age with the unveiling of a new five-year vision titled “Home Affairs @ Home.”
This ambitious plan aims to revolutionize the way citizens access Home Affairs services by making all routine tasks available online, eliminating the need for in-person visits.
Through a secure online platform linked to unique biometrics, individuals will be able to apply for IDs, passports, certificates, and more with ease.
One of the key features of Home Affairs @ Home is the implementation of automated processing, with applications being assessed through a risk engine and human intervention only required in cases of anomalies.
“This streamlined process will not only increase efficiency but also enhance national security through advanced biometric technology and machine learning,” said Schreiber.
Schreiber envisions a future where every South African with an internet connection can access Home Affairs services online, turning every library or community center into a virtual Home Affairs office.
This digital transformation will not only benefit citizens but also contribute to economic growth through streamlined services.
“By embracing digital innovation, Home Affairs is setting a new standard for government services in South Africa,” added Schreiber.
