The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation has arrested a suspect following discovery a large cache of explosives in the West Rand, believed to be used mostly in cash-in-transit heists.
Hawks Spokesperson, Lloyd Ramovha confirmed the suspect, Lonwabo Khalistan 37, appeared in the Carletonville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 15 for dealing in explosives.
The case was postponed to Monday February 27, for bail application.
According to Ramovha, Nkalitshana has been in the Hawks’ radar for a while after a tipoff of him dealing in explosives around Carletonville.
He said a multi-disciplinary operation was steered by the West Rand based Hawks in concert with Crime Intelligence and Highway Patrol unit.
Nkalitshana was followed into the Caletonville Central Business District area where he was arrested.
In the wake of searching his white VW Golf, a stash of cash amounting to R30 000-00 was found in the dashboard compartment.
Ramovha said the suspect was then taken to his place of residence where various types of explosives commonly used in cash-in-transit heists were seized.
