IFP takes proactive role in mediating ANC-DA disagreements in GNU

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has stepped up to address the public disagreements between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) regarding clause 24 of the Government of National Unity (GNU) statement of intent.

The DA federal chairperson, Helen Zille, has emphasised the need for all three founding members of the GNU to have veto power when it comes to inviting outside parties to join the coalition government.

In response, the ANC has stated that their doors remain open to other parties who want to join the GNU, while the DA has called for consultation before President Cyril Ramaphosa announces his new cabinet.

This has led to tensions between the two parties, with the DA’s expectations being labeled as a betrayal of the GNU principles by the ANC parliamentary chief whip.

However, the IFP has taken a proactive stance in mediating the disagreements between the ANC and DA. The party has called for a joint meeting between the two parties to resolve their differences and find common ground.

IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa MP has tasked the party’s coalition negotiations task team to engage with both parties in order to ensure a unified voice within the GNU.

The IFP emphasised the importance of working together to address future challenges in the coalition government and expressed their commitment to playing an active role in moving the country forward.

As the IFP takes on the role of mediator, they remain hopeful that through constructive dialogue and collaboration, the GNU partners will overcome their differences and continue to work towards a unified vision for South Africa.
