Is SA slowly becoming a magnet for terror activity, ask Mashaba

ActionSA leader, Herman Mashaba, has raised concerns over the state of national security in South Africa following the recent deportation of 95 Libyan militants discovered at a secret military training camp in Mpumalanga. This alarming discovery comes just days after the United States Treasury imposed sanctions on two South African individuals linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

According to Mashaba, the Government’s lacklustre approach to these evident security concerns and broader threats has placed the country at a perilous risk. The hasty deportation of the Libyan militants back to Tripoli has left many questions unanswered regarding their activities and how they managed to enter the country in the first place.

With South Africa emerging as a hub for terrorist financing and global terror networks targeting Africa for expansion, the threat to regional peace and security has escalated significantly. The ongoing insurgency in Mozambique serves as a stark reminder of the present danger facing South Africa.

Mashaba believes that the Government needs to take proactive and coordinated action to address these security threats. The lack of responsiveness following the discovery of the Libyan militants is a cause for concern, as it sets the stage for South Africa to be seen as an attractive safe haven for terrorist groups.

State Security urgently needs to step up its efforts to mitigate both domestic and foreign threats to peace and security. The consequences, if left unchecked, could be far too dangerous for South Africa to handle. It is imperative that the President and the Minister in the Presidency responsible for State Security take this matter seriously before it escalates further, added Mashaba.
