Showmax has just released the trailer for Life With Kelly Khumalo Season 2, which will begin airing new episodes on Thursdays beginning May 13, 2021.
“Fans have been calling for Season 2 of Life With Kelly Khumalo since it first aired last August, so we’re thrilled to produce it nine months later.”
“Renewing Life With Kelly Khumalo was a simple choice because it became the fastest Showmax Original to reach one million views,” says Showmax’s head of content, Candice Fangueiro.
Life With Kelly Khumalo Season 1 is a nominee for the South African Film and Television Award for the Best Soap Structured Reality TV Show last week, where it faces off against two other Showmax Originals: Lebo M: Coming Home and Somizi & Mohale: The Union.
Since Season 1, the South African Music Award winner has released her eighth studio album, The Voice of Africa, which includes the hit single Empini, which has received seven million views on YouTube alone.
“In my books, Kelly is the best female vocalist we’ve ever had in our time,” Somizi said during a private listening session for the album.
According to the new trailer, Kelly’s resumption of dating and the return of her mother, Ntombi Khumalo, will be the two most talked-about topics this season.
“I’m not in a relationship; I’m just having fun.”
Kelly has shied away from matters of the heart since her last public break-up, focusing her attention on becoming a mother, singer, and businesswoman.
Kelly reveals in the Season 2 teaser, “I’m not in a relationship; I’m playing with somebody…”
“She is the only living member of my family.”
Kelly was heartbroken and perplexed when her mother mysteriously vanished in Season 1. Ntombi unexpectedly left for KwaZulu-Natal after Kelly inquired about her biological father. Kelly’s continuing rivalry with her younger sister, Zandile, drove them even further apart.
But, Ntombi reappears in the Season 2 trailer, prompting Kelly to recommend a visit to a psychologist. Kelly says, “I owe it to myself and my children to continue to make this work, because she is the only family member I have left.”
“There is a healing process.”
“Through the new season, Kelly experience healing out of everything she met in season 1,” said Legend Manqele, managing producer, founder of The BarLeader, the production company behind Being Bonang, Somizi and Mohale: The Union and Kwa Mam’Mkhize.
“Kelly attempts taking everything in the same breath, but the answers she was seeking now open up questions that need to be answered that affect not only her, but her children in the long term.”
Kelly says it was inspiring to open up her life to her fans through reality television, despite what she went through in Season 1.
“Having a reality show is a way for me to own my reality and embrace who I am,” she explains. I’ve discovered that it empowers me to take control of my story.
Since I own my story, no one will ever be able to use it against me. Whether good or bad, this is who I am.”
The 13-part series will premiere on Thursday, May 13, 2021, with new episodes airing every Tuesday thereafter from August 5, 2021, the entire second season will be available for binge-watching.
