Izinja Icon, Mapaputsi dies at 45

The Kwaito music community is mourning the loss of Sandile Ngwenya, popularly known as Mapaputsi, who passed away at the age of 45.
It is with great sadness that we learned about the singer’s passing on Thursday night at his family home in Zola, Soweto.
Heartbreaking news was confirmed by Mapaputsi’s manager, Busi Kunene, with a formal press statement and media briefing expected soon.
The late artist, renowned for hits like “Izinja,” had been battling health issues for over a year, facing severe pain despite showing signs of improvement.

Close friends and acquaintances shared their grief, expressing how the news has shattered them.
Despite initial hopes for his recovery, it’s evident that Mapaputsi’s struggle took a toll.
His commitment to the music community and his willingness to support others, even during his own challenges, will be remembered.
“As we honour Mapaputsi’s legacy, let’s respect his family’s privacy during this difficult time,’ said Kunene.
The community has expressed a desire to support the late artist and his family, and plans for a benefit concert have been mentioned by an anonymous musician.
