The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has dropped all charges against TV presenter and rapper Jub Jub, whose real name is Molemo Katlego Maarohanye.
According to Gauteng NPA Regional Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, the Director of Public Prosecutions concluded that there was no reasonable chance of a successful prosecution.
As a result, said Mjonondwane the NPA withdrew the charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault against Maarohanye.
The charges stemmed from a complaint filed by Maarohanye’s ex-girlfriend in February 2022, alleging that the incidents occurred between 2006 and 2009.
Her social media post ignited a movement, prompting three other women to come forward with similar allegations against Maaroganye.
They also went to the police, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.
Maarohanye subsequently surrendered himself to authorities and was released on R10,000 bail.
Mjonondwane said the NPA takes all allegations of sexual violence seriously, but it will only pursue charges when there is sufficient admissible evidence.
In this case, further evaluation of the evidence revealed no prospects of a successful prosecution, leading to the withdrawal of charges.
