The much-anticipated new Kia EV6 is a compact electric crossover that offers high levels of safety and comfort, plus a sophisticated array of driver assist systems (ADAS).
Innovating and high-tech features on the EV6 limit many of the inherent hazards and stresses of driving, keeping both passengers and other road users safe and calm.
On the highway
The EV6 comes standard with Kia’s latest Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2) technology, which ensures safety and convenience on the highway.
A radar system on the vehicle allows the driver to keep a set distance and speed from the vehicle in front, while Lane Following Assist (LFA) technology ensures the vehicle stays centred in its lane.
The technology can reduce the vehicle speed through curves using Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control with Curve Control (NSCC-C) and then restore the speed whenever conditions allow.
In the event that an adjacent vehicle drives too close to the EV6, HDA 2 assists by altering the EV6’s course, reducing the danger of a collision.
It’s also easier than ever to switch lanes. A click of the indicator stalk will automatically shift the car into the corresponding lane with the driver’s hands on the steering wheel and at a specific speed.
The Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM) and Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) systems are available on the EV6 to ensure that lane changes are made safely each time.
With BVM, the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster of the EV6 provides a high-definition view, eliminating the left-and right-hand-side blind spots for the driver.
BCA employs radar sensors to warn the driver of approaching vehicles, and the system will automatically apply the brakes if a collision is imminent during lane changes.
Especially when there are several lanes at an intersection, safely negotiating intersections may cause anxiety for many drivers.
For the first time ever, Kia’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) system incorporates capabilities for Junction Turning and Crossing to help drivers navigate safely.
If the EV6’s turn signal is switched on, the system will alert the driver if a collision with an incoming vehicle is about to happen.
As the driver crosses a junction, a warning flashes when there is a possibility of oncoming traffic from either the left or the right.
If either risk rises, the system will alert the driver and use the brakes automatically to avoid a crash.
Seeing and being seen are vital for the safety of a vehicle
The Kia EV6 comes with the new Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS), which provides more precise lighting thanks to each LED that can light up independently.
The IFS enables the driver to maintain a constant high beam without dazzling approaching vehicles.
A front view camera with vehicle recognition technology dims or brightens each individual LED in real time, improving the driver’s forward vision while reducing glare from oncoming traffic.
Manoeuvring is made easy
The Surround View Monitor (SVM) makes parking and other potentially tricky manoeuvers easier.
With its 360-degree cameras, the EV6’s infotainment screen shows a panorama of the entire vehicle.
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist also makes reversing out of a tight space safer (RCCA).
When reversing, this high-tech technology detects oncoming vehicles approaching from all sides.
The device will automatically brake the vehicle if a probable collision is detected.
For those particularly tight parking spots, the EV6’s Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature can take the hassle out of parking completely.
RSPA is a feature that allows the car to park itself without the need for the driver to be there.
The EV6 can detect a suitable parking place using surround view cameras and ultrasonic sensors and automatically drive itself into it, with automatic control of the accelerator, brakes, and shifter.
Additionally, the RSPA can park the car in perpendicular and parallel parking spaces.
When you park and someone opens up the back door to disembark the vehicle, Kia’s Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system will automatically alert you and lock the door if an approaching vehicle approaches from the rear side, helping to reduce the risk of a collision.
As an added convenience, the EV6 offers a Kia Smart Power Tailgate. Once a Smart Key is inserted into the pocket and the vehicle is approached from behind, the system recognizes the key and opens the tailgate automatically. For those whose two hands are holding some items, the system is a blessing.
