Polokwane High Court on Tuesday sentenced a 39-year-old man to life in prison for killing his supposed lover.
Lesiba Zacharia Moabi was convicted during trial for the murder of his 27-year-old alleged girlfriend, Matshidiso Mocheko, a mechanical engineering student at Lephalale TVET College.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, a spokesperson, for the Limpopo Police said the incident happened on February 10, 2020, in Onverwhact, Lephalale.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe praised the heavy sentence served to Moabi.
According to Lt Gen Hadebe, this sentence is meant to send a powerful message to other criminals planning to commit similar acts of gender-based violence and femicide.
“Police are determined to use their sterling investigative skills to ensure those involved in such crimes are imprisoned for life,” said Hadebe.
