The second suspect arrested in connection with a robbery at the private residence of Lephalale Mayor, Jack Maeko, appeared in the Phalala Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Portia Kgama, 34, was not asked to plead. Her case was postponed to April 15, 2021, for bail application and for further police investigations.
She was remanded into custody.
Limpopo Police Spokesperson, Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said Kgama will join her accomplice, a 38-year-old Joao Antonio Lucas, at her next court appearance.
Colonel Ngoepe said Kgama was arrested in Lephalale on April 6, 2021.
Joao, who is a Mozambican national, was arrested in Springs, Gauteng shortly after the robbery.
“The suspects were arrested following an incident in which four armed men and two women went to the mayor’s house at his home village in Moong, Ga-Seleka, and demanded to see him.
Before the guard manning the gate could respond, the thieves attacked him, then tied everyone up in the house before searching the premises, “Colonel Ngoepe said.
The robbers stole Toyota Legend 45 and the car was later found abandoned along Lebu road near Tomburke outside Lephalale.
The suspect fled in three cars, a Toyota Fortuner, the VW Polo, and the unidentified car.
Ngoepe said a manhunt for the remaining suspects is still underway.
