Limpopo Health Department mourns the death of young doctors, a married couple

The Limpopo Health Department expressed deep sorrow upon learning of the tragic deaths of two doctors – a married couple – at their home in Thornhill Estate, Polokwane on Monday.

This follows a reported argument that ended in tragedy.

Limpopo Health MEC spokesperson, Thilivhali Muavha said colleagues are grief-stricken, lamenting the loss of two hardworking, dedicated, and promising young individuals, describing their passing as an enormous setback to the provincial health department.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed Dr. Mainfred Shikwambane, 35, shot and killed his wife, Tshimangadzo Muofhe, 32, then turned the gun on himself.

Muavha said prior to Dr.Shikwambane  permanent appointment as Clinical Manager of Donald Fraser Hospital, he served two years in an acting capacity.

“He earned well-deserved praise for his part in transforming the hospital from having the highest maternal death rate in the Vhembe district to recording zero deaths,” he said.

“Recognizing his remarkable achievements in clinical governance, they entrusted him with overall management of the hospital just this past month,” said  Muavha.

Linpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba expressed a deep sense of sorrow after Dr. Muofhe, who had demonstrated extraordinary clinical governance performance, was taken from us.

Ramathuba said colleagues and patients of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department would miss her. On their behalf said Ramathuba the department of health sends their condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and patients.
