In an effort to combat crime in Limpopo, police have arrested 1022 foreign nationals for violating immigration laws.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said 1130 other suspects were arrested for a variety of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, rape and other sexual offenses, armed robberies, possession of illegal cigarettes and illegal firearms.
Other suspects found in possession of stolen property, dealing in drugs, and dealing in dagga.
He said the operational teams included Limpopo Highway Patrol, Tactical Response Team, Crime Intelligence, Provincial Organised Crime and members of police stations throughout the province.
Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo law enforcement agencies have arrested 1022 undocumented foreign nationals for violating immigration laws in an effort to combat the scourge of crime in Limpopo.
Other suspects, according Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, were in possession of stolen property, dealing in drugs, and possessing and dealing in dagga.
He stated that the operational teams included the Limpopo Highway Patrol, Tactical Response Team, Crime Intelligence, Provincial Organised Crime l, detectives from the Provincial, District, and Station levels, as well as members attached to police stations throughout the Province.
Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the teams for their dedication and perseverance in ridding the province of criminals.
“As we are in the Women’s Month, policewomen at all levels of command are also busy with Operation Basadi, which is being conducted concurrently alongside the ongoing operations, and some of these arrests and confiscations are attributable to the women in blue,” said Lt.Gen Hadebe.
According to Brigadier Mojapeole, suspects aged 19 to 61 have already begun to appear in various magistrate courts throughout the Province.
He stated that operations to rid the province of criminal activities are still ongoing.
